I have always enjoyed working and experimenting with various mixed media, especially textiles and embroidery. I’ve always found doing arts and crafts very therapeutic.
I consider myself and optimistic and cheerful person, but I’ve always struggled with periods of anxiety and depression. Following a period of stressful events, I felt I couldn’t cope any more and sought help and was referred to Mind in Bexley.
I joined Centrepieces in 2018, on recommendation from Mind in Bexley where I was attending workshops and volunteering at the Women’s Group. Joining Centrepieces has been of tremendous help to my mental health, and a wonderful journey: I’ve learned a lot of new mixed media techniques, made some wonderful new friends and re-discovered some of my old passions and hobbies. I love the mixed media sessions: I’ve learned a lot of exciting new techniques such as mosaics, weaving, plaster sculpture and papier mache. I also love photography and enjoy going on outings with the photography group.
I started doing embroidery at the Exchange in Erith and rediscovered another of my favourite hobbies, I’ve always enjoyed sewing. I started making textile butterflies and moths during the first lockdown, and have become fascinated with these beautiful creatures, learning about all the different species and their lifecycles.
